One of the Romans most favorite types of entertainment were chariot races. They had all kinds of different types of teams that raced but there was only four teams and up to twelve chariots. They named each team a certain color such as the Reds, Blues, Green, or Whites. These races were held in an arena which was also known as a circus. The arena that they performed in was called Circus Maximus. The Circus Maximus is a big arena that can hold up to 200,000 spectators in it.

Chariot races that were held in Rome are very similar to the horse races that are held today. The people root for their teams during the race and sometimes even bid on the horses and their riders during the race. In Rome, the chariots only had two wheels so it was not as stable as other vehicles. Two people shared a chariot with two horses; one person drove the chariot while the other defended it with a bow.

The chariot races actually began in 1800 BCE in Syria. The Roman also used chariots as military weapons against their enemies. The chariots are made with wood but covered with animal skins. Chariot racing was a very common for of Olympic games and have added to Olympic games over the years. Many people were involved in these Roman activities, especially the people with a lot of fortune. Entertainment is what pasted the time by and it still does today. We have expanded upon our interests and different types of ways to entertain ourselves.
